GM Yermolinsky - What it takes to be a complete 1.d4 player - Queen’s Indian - g3 - Vd 5

Opening: E17: Queen's Indian 5.Bg2 Be7

Player(s): Yermolinsky, Gulko

The next step is to study the classical g3 response. We already saw glimpses of the resulting structures when we looked at the hanging pawns setup Black may use in the Petrosian. Of course, he has more options other than putting his pawn to d5. In the main variation with ...Ne4 I always preferred to reply with a modest move Bd2. Black has many options in return. In Video #1 we will see a Kings Indian type of position where the placement of the b7-bishop doesn't make much sense, yet Black enjoys his other bishop being unopposed.
