Opening: A56: Benoni

In this video, GM Marian shows you the main ideas in Benoni. There are a few different kinds, depending on whether Black goes for e5 to close the center or for the standard e6 and then brings the Bishop on the long diagonal after g6. In the first case, both sides are looking to open the game with b4 and f4, or b5, f5 for Black. One crucial idea for Black is to try to trade his bad Bishop by preparing Bg5 at some point. Overall this is solid, but a bit passive line for Black as white has more space and a comfortable game. Of course, there is the option in the main lines to go for the gambits with b5 or to play the Modern Benoni, where white has many different plans. In the classical system, white wants to put pressure on the d6 pawn with Bf4 and bring the knight on c4. So Black can try to trade that knight before that with Bg4. If white goes h3, then Black could try the lines with b5 that are complicated but give them a good game. The lines with f4 are considered the most dangerous, where white has more control in the middle and black should be prepared well. And in the lines with f3 or g3, Black also plans to get a good game, but the ideas are slightly different.
