GM Petrov’s Complete Caro-Kann - Video 5

Opening: : Caro-Kann

Player(s):

In this video, we will see a positional line where after exd5, white does not go for c4 but focuses on development. The most popular move is 4.Bd3, and then the setup is Bf4 Nf3 and castle. The pawn structure is like a reversed Carlsbad, and white has the outpost for Ne5, and black could have a minority attack with b5. One issue is that black wants to develop his light square bishop, and white wants to control f5 and g4 if he goes for h3. So black has to hurry or choose the setup with g6 to skip e6. In all the lines, the game is complicated with mutual chances.
