GM Petrov’s Attack the King! - Smothered Mate

Opening: C37, B84:

Player(s): Bird, Slade, Hooper

In chess, a smothered mate is a checkmate delivered by a knight in which the mated king is unable to move because he is surrounded (or smothered) by its pieces.
The mate is usually seen in a corner of the board since fewer pieces are needed to surround the king there.
It's a classical checkmate, which every good player should be able to see and perform when it happens over the board. In this amzing video, GM Marian shows you several examples to make you able to recognize patterns that can lead to this surprising and effective checkmate!
