GM Petrov: Surprise Repertoire for Black after 1.e4 e5, 2.Nf3 - Video 6: 2…d6

Opening: C41: Philidor's defense

Player(s):

In this video, finally, we will see a proper opening.
The Philidor defense is quite a popular opening, but it is still in the shadow of 2...Nc6, so actually, many players underestimate it playing with white.
We will also see rare deviations, some of which are not so bad for a surprise weapon.
And also, we will take a look at the main traps and ideas in the popular systems.
In general, the leading choice for black is to keep the center or to take on d4. In both cases, black has good counterplay.
