GM Petrov: Surprise Repertoire for Black after 1.e4 e5, 2.Nf3 - Video 10: 4…Nc6 in the Petroff

Opening: C42: Petroff Defense

Player(s):

This video will show a gambit that has become popular in the last few years, mainly in the blitz and rapid games. Black gives a pawn for quick development and has some very nice tricks and traps prepared. In many games, in the beginning, even some strong players lost in 10-15 moves with white. If white is not prepared, there are many possible ways for black to attack. The main idea is Ng4, and sometimes black has to prepare it with h5. Even if white has castled and had h3 played, that is still a threat because if the knight is taken, the h file is open for the rook.
This very tricky line is suitable for blitz and rapid games.
If white knows the best moves, he can defend and keep the extra pawn, but still, there is plenty of play.
