GM Misa Pap - How to beat the Sicilian Sveshnikov - Introduction

Opening: B33: Sicilian Sveshnikov

Player(s):

The Sveshnikov is a very well known variation, or maybe even notorious, for being very solid. Compared to other "Sicilians," here, black has a solid position, with his pawn already on e5, and white can very rarely get direct attack against the black king. Of course, this comes with a price, and that is a weak d5 square. But that is just one square, and black managed to prove over the years that in many lines, the position is good enough for equal play, or at least for counterplay for black. So, what to do then? How to beat this tough opening? GM Misa presents you with several options, each one with some "bite" and some ideas to play for the full point, and then you can use just one or all of them in your fight against this line. This way, you will have a higher chance to win against the Sveshnikov. Of course, there is not a clear advantage for white in all the lines, but following Misa's advice, you'll find strategical and tactical ideas in each variation and plans for the middlegame!
