GM Joel’s Chess Week Recap - Episode 115

Opening: B30, D90, D24, B48, D37:

Player(s): Carlsen, Svidler, Meier, Vachier-Lagrave, Keymer, Burke, Durarbayli, Shabalov, Boensch

Magnus Carlsen won the Grenke Classic very convincingly, with a 1.5 points lead over the world number 2 Fabiano Caruana, a rating performance close to 3000 - which is Engine's territory! - and shooting his live rating up to an astronomic 2875.2. People in the chess world are again talking about the mythical 2900 barrier, that the Norwegian seems to be able to approach. The World Senior Team Championship +50, which was held in Rhodes, the largest of Greece's Dodecanese islands, saw the US Team win for the second year in a row! GM Benjamin is one of the players who led the US to victory, along with GM Alex Yermolinsky, GM Alexander Shabalov, GM Igor Novikov and GM Jaan Ehlvest! Congratulations, Sirs! In this episode of his weekly show, GM Joel shows us some of the most interesting games from these events.
