GM Davorin Kuljasevic - The Importance of Modern Middlegame Tabiyas - Video 9

Opening: E54: Nimzo-Indian: 4.e3, Gligoric System with 7...dxc4

Player(s): Kramnik, Kasparov, Korobov, Guliev, Acs, Zelcic, Anand, Topalov, Nepomniachtchi

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.e3 This is the so-called Rubinstein variation of the Nimzo-Indian defense, named after Akiba Rubinstein, one of the most prominent chess players of the early 20th century. It has been a very popular opening over the last almost 100 years, which is not a surprise considering how natural-looking and sound White's setup is. In this chapter, we will focus on a middlegame tabiya that arises after the following natural moves: 4...0-0 5.Bd3 d5 6.Nf3 c5 7.0-0 cxd4 8.exd4 dxc4 9.Bxc4 b6.
