Every Russian Schoolboy Knows - The Carlsen English - Part 1

Opening: A22: English Opening

Player(s): Carlsen, Caruana

The recently concluded Clutch Chess Showdown was yet another entry in the parade of online events featuring World's best. Leaving aside the sporting element of the competition, along with a debate of the virtues of a new system of awarding more points for some games, I will stick to purely chess matters. What caught my eye was an unusual treatment World Champion gave to the English Opening in his final match against Caruana. In reply to the reversed Rossolimo's Bb4, Magnus immediately pushed his e-pawn forward, resulting in fresh and rather unclear positions. This video series intends to uncover some of the mysteries of those. It actually poses more question than it provides answers, but it could be a good starting point for you own research.
