And now we come to "real" or positional exchange sacrifice. The most famous player who used this idea with great success was the 9th world champion, Tigran Petrosian. GM Misa shows us some examples from Tigran's games and other Masters, in this eighth installment of the video series on Champions' extraordinary ideas. GM Misa likes positional understanding and the ability to sacrifice an exchange masterfully of top-class GMs like Anand, Kramnik, Kasparov. Just to be clear, the exchange sacrifice is not a big material sacrifice, maybe close to one pawn. It is usually not really clear to amateur players when to use it, and when their opponent might be threatening to use such an idea. Typically, it is a mix of factors that show if such a sacrifice could be acceptable or not. In this video, GM Misa helps you increase your understanding of this crucial positional tool, which every chess player needs to pursue higher levels of play.
