Attack with LarryC: In Harmen’s Way

Opening: B22, D32: Sicilian: Alapin, Queen's Gambit Declined; Tarrasch

Player(s): Ghitescu, Donner, Jonkman, Naiditsch

GM Christiansen this week shows us two attacking games which have been played in past years at the Tata Steel Tournament in Wijk aan Zee. Larry starts with a nice example of central break-through - played in 1967 - courtesy of the Romanian GM Theodor Ghitescu and the well-known Jan Hein Donner of the Netherlands; Donner is quite famous for his short losses against grandmasters, and this is another fine example of this characteristic of the great chess journalist and writer. In the second part of the show, Larry illustrates a game from the "B" group played in 2003, between Harmen Jonkman and the then-rising-star German GM Arkadij Naiditsch.
