It is Olympiad season! ICC is relaying the games form the 40th Olympiad being held in Istanbul, Turkey, and will be on the air with the Chess.FM dream Team for the last three rounds. Players and Countries from all around the world are one, all together playing chess: gens una sumus, as the Latin saying goes. Larry says that one of the most impressive things about Olympiad games is the quality of play in lower boards. Thru the years, there have been many upsets and brilliant games in these games. Olympiad: it's not only about the top guns! Newcomers emerging from nowhere take to the scene, playing amazingly beautiful games. so, our GM LarryC chooses to show a game from a past Olympiad, where an unknown Odonddo Gambold from Mongolia take is on solid Greek GM Hristos Banikas. then GM Christiansen goes on to show us a famous Olympiad game, played in Buenos Aires 1978.
