Sinquefield Cup 2016 - Round 8 Video Recap

Opening: D37: QGD: classical variation (5.Bf4)

Player(s): Aronian, Nakamura

GM John Fedorowicz recaps Round 8. Svidler! Eventually, Peter played at his level and won a convincing game against Giri. Now he's out of the pit or, better, he shares last with Anish, but we've seen again the Svidler we all want to see. Aronian is back too, playing a very good and intense game against American hero Hikaru Nakamura, who tried to find a way not to succumb with all himself, but the ending was totally won for the Armenian and nothing worked for Hikaru, who had to resign after a full six hours battle. With this win, Aronian joins Anand and Topalov in second, half a point behind Wesley So. Last round promises to be exciting, with a bunch of players still on the run to win the event. Wesley So tomorrow plays MVL with black, and the French is not an easy customer, though he's not having a brilliant event in St. Louis. Anand will have to deal with Svidler, again playing with the black pieces; Caruana has what would appear to be the easiest game, playing white against a rather demotivated Giri. The top game will be Topalov vs. Aronian. Should one of them prevail - with Wesley drawing - the tournament could have a tail on Monday, with the always thrilling playoffs. Last round tomorrow at 2pm EDT - 20:00 CEDT.
