GM Petrov’s New Strategies in the Middlegame - Vd12: Attacking the King in the Center

Opening: C51: Evans Gambit

Player(s): Kasparov, Anand

In this video, we will see a few examples of how to attack the king in the center. Here, the main difference is whether we have an open position or a closed one. In the first case, there are a few crucial tips. Develop your minor pieces quickly and castle rapidly. Then open some files, especially the e-file, to bring your rooks. Then try to prevent the king from castling even if you need to sac something. If the game is closed, often, players keep the king in the middle as it looks safe. But at some moment, if you have more space and better development, you can look for some combination to break the pawn center and open the position of the king.
