This week, we return to king and pawn endgames to hammer home the most important principle about pawn endings - timing. The natural inclination for amateurs is to move their king to the most active square and to expect the opponent to do the same. But often it is necessary to take an indirect path, or play to a waiting square to get where you want to go at the right time.
